How to Find Your Minecraft World Seed

A world seed is a unique string of numbers that the Minecraft algorithm uses to generate your world. If you find a perfect spawn point or a rare village, sharing the seed allows other players to generate the exact same landscape.

1. Minecraft: Java Edition (PC)

If you have permissions (cheats enabled or OP status on a server), you can find the seed instantly:

  1. Open the chat by pressing T or /.
  2. Type /seed and press Enter.
  3. The seed will appear in the chat. You can click on it to copy it to your clipboard.
NOTE

On multiplayer servers, you usually need to be an operator (OP) to use the/seed command.

2. Minecraft: Bedrock Edition (Console, Mobile, Windows 10)

In Bedrock Edition, you don't even need commands to find the seed.

  1. Pause the game and go to Settings.
  2. Stay in the Game tab.
  3. Scroll down to the World Settings section.
  4. The Seed will be listed there as a long number.

3. Finding the Seed Without Commands (Java)

If you don't have cheats enabled in your Java world, you can still find the seed:

  1. Pause the game and click Open to LAN.
  2. Toggle Allow Cheats to ON and click Start LAN World.
  3. Now you can use the /seed command in your chat.
  4. The cheats will revert to OFF the next time you restart the world.

4. Why use a seed?

  • Share with Friends: Let others play in your world.
  • Online Maps: Use tools like Chunkbase to locate structures like Mansions or Villages by entering your seed.
  • Speedrunning: Practice in specific environments to improve your times.
