How to Disable Mob Griefing in Minecraft

Tired of Creepers leaving holes in your beautiful landscapes or Ghasts destroying your Nether bridges? You can easily disable "Mob Griefing" in Minecraft using a simple game rule.

When Mob Griefing is disabled:

  • Creepers deal damage to players but won't destroy blocks.
  • Endermen can no longer pick up or move blocks.
  • Ghasts won't destroy blocks with fireballs.
  • Villagers won't be able to pick up food (which stops automatic farming).

1. Using Commands (Java & Bedrock)

If you have cheats enabled in your world, you can run this command in the chat:

  • Disable Griefing: /gamerule mobGriefing false
  • Enable Griefing: /gamerule mobGriefing true
CAUTION

Disabling mob griefing will also stop Villagers from farming and breeding, as they can no longer pick up the bread or carrots needed for those functions.

2. World Settings (Bedrock Edition)

If you prefer not to use commands, you can find this in the settings menu on Bedrock:

  1. Pause the game and go to Settings.
  2. Stay in the Game tab.
  3. Scroll down to the Cheats section.
  4. Find Mob Griefing and toggle it to OFF.

3. Server Settings (Dedicated Servers)

If you are running a server on LeafMC or Paper, you can also set this in your world's default game rules or use a plugin like WorldGuard for more precise control.
