How to Keep Inventory After Death in Minecraft
Losing all your hard-earned diamonds and armor in a lava pit can be a heartbreaking experience. Fortunately, Minecraft has a built-in feature called Keep Inventory that ensures you keep everything you were carrying when you respawn.
1. Using Commands (Java & Bedrock)
If you have cheats enabled in your world, open the chat and type:
- Enable Keep Inventory:
/gamerule keepInventory true - Disable Keep Inventory:
/gamerule keepInventory false
Make sure the "I" inkeepInventory is capitalized for Java Edition players!
2. World Settings (Bedrock Edition)
For players on Mobile, Xbox, PlayStation, or Switch, you can easily find this in the menu:
- Pause the game and open Settings.
- Go to the Game category.
- Scroll down to the Cheats section.
- Find the toggle labeled Keep Inventory and switch it to ON.
3. Does this disable achievements?
Yes, on the Bedrock Edition, enabling Keep Inventory (or any non-default gamerule) will disable Xbox Live achievements or PlayStation trophies for that specific world. In Java Edition, there are no such restrictions on advancements.
